Visa (V)

Working in finance made me curious about the network behind the payment, so I used Visa to work through that question.

Why I chose Visa

Banking and financial services have been a large part of my career. Visa felt like a natural company to study: its name is familiar, but I wanted to understand the business behind the transactions.

I used this memo to work through Visa’s revenue, margins, and cash generation, then lay out a DCF framework. My focus was on understanding what drives the value and where the assumptions need more work.

What I focused on

  • The relationship between payment activity, revenue growth, and operating margins.
  • How cash-flow assumptions feed into a discounted cash-flow valuation.
  • How sensitive the result is to the discount rate, long-term growth, and share-count assumptions.

A note on the research

The memo describes a scenario framework rather than a verified current stock-price target. It references a companion spreadsheet; that workbook is not included in this collection.

The source dates and assumptions are included in the documents.
